About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our team at EMBL-EBI, responsible for designing, developing, and operating high-throughput pipelines to support scientists worldwide in ingesting, processing, persisting, and distributing high volumes of sequence data.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with our development and operational teams, EBI's IT and Technical services teams, and the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC) to ensure seamless data processing and distribution.
- Develop and maintain large-scale databases, leveraging expertise in Oracle and MongoDB.
- Utilize workflow management systems and distributed data processing software, such as Hadoop and Spark, to optimize data processing.
- Work closely with a diverse team of professionals, applying modern software development practices, including continuous integration and deployment, and system monitoring.
- Contribute to the development of high-quality software, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of professional software development experience using Java and Spring framework.
- Experience with large-scale databases, workflow management systems, and distributed data processing software.
- Excellent knowledge of the UNIX command line.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary scientific environment.
