About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our team at EMBL-EBI. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and operating high-throughput pipelines to support scientists worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-throughput pipelines using Java and Spring framework.
  • Work with our development and operational teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment.
  • Collaborate with EBI's IT and Technical services teams to ensure smooth operation of our systems.
  • Develop and maintain large scale databases using Oracle and MongoDB.
  • Ensure excellent knowledge of the UNIX command line and experience with workflow management systems and distributed data processing software.
  • Apply modern software development practices, including continuous integration and deployment, application of various software testing principles, processes, and tools, and system monitoring.
  • Work effectively as part of a team with a range of skills and backgrounds.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary scientific environment.
  • Experience with sequence data and sequence data formats (incl. FASTQ, BAM, CRAM, SRA).
