About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Software Development Lead to join our team at EMBL-EBI. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and operations of high-throughput pipelines that enable us to support scientists worldwide by ingesting, processing, persisting, and distributing large volumes of sequence data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex projects from conception to delivery, leveraging your strong problem-solving abilities and focus on delivering scalable, high-performance solutions.
  • Set up and run development teams, ensuring the adoption of modern software development practices, including continuous integration and deployment, application of various software testing principles, processes, and tools, and system monitoring.
  • Collaborate with our development and operational teams, EBI's IT and Technical services teams, and the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC) to shape the development team and establish development processes.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of professional experience, with a track record of leading complex projects.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering scalable, high-performance solutions.
  • Experience with setting up and running development teams.
  • Experience with modern software development practices, including continuous integration and deployment, application of various software testing principles, processes, and tools, and system monitoring.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team with a range of skills and backgrounds.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary scientific environment.
  • Familiarity with sequence data and sequence data formats (including FASTQ, BAM, CRAM, SRA).
