Position Overview

Are you a dedicated member of The Methodist Church in Britain with a strong commitment to fostering the development and training of individuals in ministry, both ordained and lay? Do you possess experience collaborating with theological institutions within the Higher Education landscape?

The Methodist Church in Britain is on the lookout for a Head of Ministry Education (HME) to serve as a champion and facilitator for educational initiatives related to ministry across the Church.

This role is situated within the Ministries: Vocations and Worship (MVW) team of the Connexional Team, which is dedicated to equipping the Methodist Church by training, developing, and supporting those called to serve in both lay and ordained ministry. The HME will play a crucial role in implementing strategies that align with the Church's goals of inclusivity, justice, evangelism, and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Ministries and Learning, alongside other stakeholders, to enhance learning and development for all forms of ordained and lay ministry within the Church.
  • Partner with the Director of Ministry Development to oversee the creation, execution, assessment, and refinement of training pathways and courses for lay and ordained ministry.
  • Establish and maintain formal connections between the Methodist Council/Connexional Council and Methodist-affiliated educational institutions.
  • Work alongside the Director of Ministry Development to provide strategic leadership and support for the entire MVW Team's initiatives.
  • Engage with the Director of Research and Scholarship and others to lead the promotion and management of opportunities for advanced academic study for both ministers and lay individuals.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have a background in higher education and substantial experience in providing visionary and collaborative leadership in the learning and development strategies of an organization, as well as conducting strategic reviews of educational pathways. The ability to engage in theological reflection and apply it to all aspects of the role is essential.
