About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Biffa Waste Services. As a key member of our Total Recycling division, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facilities and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and audit compliance with health and safety policies and procedures, and analyze statistical information to identify areas for improvement.
  • Deliver effective training to staff on risk assessment, manual handling, and other health and safety topics.
  • Work with the central SHEQ team to collect and collate data on hazard and near miss reporting, external and internal audits, and behavioral surveys.
  • Act as the site's point of contact for fire prevention, including investigating reports of fire incidents and conducting fire drills.
  • Carry out contractor inductions and assist with on-site contractor monitoring reports.
  • Ensure that vehicles, plant, and machinery meet legislative requirements and monitor completion of statutory inspections.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, and produce reports and recommendations for corrective action.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment, with a proven track record of proposing new ways of working.
  • High level of knowledge on confined space works, breathing apparatus, and high and ultra-high pressure water activities in complex/multi-hazard environments.
  • Level 5 City & Guilds in management of confined spaces is desirable.
  • Experience/knowledge in chemical/hazardous spill remediation, with a dynamic and proactive approach to preparing teams for high-risk scenarios.
  • Experience training personnel, with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into safe working practices.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification.
