Biffa Waste Services is seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Manager to join our Total Recycling division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of our facilities and services, while promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and audit compliance with health and safety policies and procedures, analyzing statistical information to identify areas for improvement.
  • Deliver effective training to staff on risk assessment, manual handling, and other safety-related topics, ensuring a thorough understanding of site policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with the central SHEQ team to collect and collate data for hazard and near miss reporting, external and internal audits, and behavioral surveys.
  • Act as the site's point of contact for fire prevention, investigating reports of fire incidents, conducting fire drills, and testing firefighting equipment.
  • Carry out contractor inductions and assist in the completion of on-site contractor monitoring reports.
  • Ensure vehicles, plant, and machinery meet legislative requirements and monitor completion of statutory inspections.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, producing reports and recommendations for corrective action.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment, with the ability to propose new ways of working.
  • High level of knowledge on confined space works, breathing apparatus, and high-pressure water activities in complex/multi-hazard environments.
  • Level 5 City & Guilds in management of confined spaces is desirable.
  • Experience/knowledge in chemical/hazardous spill remediation, with a dynamic and proactive approach to preparing teams responding to reactive high-risk scenarios.
  • Experience training personnel, able to translate regulatory requirements into safe working practices.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification.
