About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Manager to join our Total Recycling division at Biffa. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for monitoring adherence to site legal requirements and our company's in-house safety and compliance framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake health and safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Compile weekly and monthly compliance reports for senior management.
  • Conduct health and safety training to promote a positive health and safety culture.
  • Monitor and audit compliance and effectiveness of health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Deliver training on risk assessment, manual handling, and site policies and procedures.
  • Work with the central SHEQ team to collect and collate data for hazard and near miss reporting, external and internal audits, and behavioural surveys.
  • Investigate fire incidents, conduct fire drills, and test firefighting equipment.
  • Carry out contractor inductions and assist with on-site contractor monitoring reports.
  • Ensure vehicles, plant, and machinery meet legislative requirements and monitor statutory inspections.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, producing reports and recommendations for corrective action.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment with the ability to propose new ways of working.
  • High level of knowledge on confined space works, breathing apparatus, and high-pressure water activities in complex/multi-hazard environments.
  • Level 5 City & Guilds in management of confined spaces is desirable.
  • Experience/knowledge in chemical/hazardous spill remediation and a dynamic approach to preparing teams responding to reactive high-risk scenarios.
  • Experience training personnel and translating regulatory requirements into safe working practices.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification.
