About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to join our Trading Underwriting Team in Colchester. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving the performance of your team to exceed key measures such as retention, loss ratio performance, premium written, and workflow management.

You will work closely with the Head of Broker to support and drive the strategy of the APC business, and sustain relationships with Service Delivery Team Leaders to adhere to a collaborative approach across Operations and Distribution.

The successful candidate will have prior underwriting experience in a broker-facing environment, and previous people management experience within insurance would be an advantage. You will be a strong influencer, negotiator, and leader with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of relationship management and customer focus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the evolution of segmentation within the Trading Underwriting Team and influence underwriters to embrace and lead change.
  • Strategic input into the running of the Trading Underwriting Team and conduct regular monthly team meetings for positive engagement.
  • Work closely with the Head of Broker to support and drive the strategy of the APC business.
  • Sustain relationships with Service Delivery Team Leaders to adhere to a collaborative approach across Operations and Distribution.
  • Proactively manage the servicing and retention of larger complex renewals.
  • Develop and maintain close, effective relationships with key stakeholders including Operations, Sales DU's, Branch Managers, and Sales Director.
  • Undertake resource planning and look for ways to improve the effectiveness of the Trading Underwriting Team.
  • Actively assist with talent acquisition for the recruitment of experienced underwriters in line with current and future service developments.
  • Deliver a structured and tailored induction process for new joiners to the team.
  • Lead and coach your team to ensure their broker and customer interactions are continually developed in line with the Hiscox sales coaching framework.
  • Support and develop team members to ensure strong performers are stretched and appropriate action is taken against underperformance.
