Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to join our team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Payroll Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of payroll processing, while maintaining compliance with NHS National terms and conditions of service and local Trust terms and conditions of employment.

Main Responsibilities

As a Payroll Assistant, your primary duties will include:

  • Inputting and processing payroll data, including starters, leavers, variations to contract, absence, overtime, and other allied data.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, ensuring compliance with Statutory Regulations and internal audit requirements.
  • Producing accurate and punctual payments to employees using the ESR (Payroll System) computer system.
  • Applying and interpreting NHS/Trust conditions of service to ensure correct payments are made.
  • Ensuring adherence to Standing Financial Instructions, Financial Procedures, and Service Level Agreements of the Trust.
  • Dealing with queries from employees, managers, and HR relating to payroll matters in a professional and timely manner.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • 4 GCSE's at Grades A - C including English and Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Desirable: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent knowledge and experience in a relevant area, knowledge of ESR (Oracle Based), Payroll procedures and Statutory Regulations, NHS Terms and Conditions, and advance keyboard skills with ECDL or equivalent.
  • Essential: Strong communication, both written and verbal, excellent organisational skills, and recent experience of handling administrative tasks.
