Your Responsibilities: As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in aiding students with special needs, ensuring their mental health requirements are addressed within the educational framework. Your primary duties will include:

  • Collaborating with educators to establish a secure and nurturing classroom setting that fosters positive mental health and emotional stability.
  • Providing individualized or small group assistance to students, aiding them in developing coping mechanisms, managing anxiety, and enhancing resilience.
  • Working in conjunction with the school's mental health experts, therapists, and other professionals to execute tailored support strategies.
  • Assisting students in accessing learning resources, facilitating their involvement in classroom activities, and encouraging engagement and interaction.
  • Promoting the growth of social skills, emotional regulation, and self-esteem through focused interventions and structured activities.
  • Documenting and reporting observations regarding student progress, behavior, and overall well-being to the educational team and mental health professionals.

Qualifications:

  • A sincere dedication to supporting the mental health and well-being of students with special needs.
  • Experience in working with individuals facing mental health challenges (prior experience in an educational or mental health context is advantageous).
  • Understanding of various mental health conditions and the capability to apply suitable strategies to meet students' specific needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster relationships with students, parents, and the broader educational community.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to maintain composure in challenging circumstances.
  • Awareness of safeguarding protocols and the ability to uphold confidentiality.
