About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our team at GSL Education. As a Level 3 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the education and well-being of students in a Secondary School's SEN department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and interactive lessons, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work with children and young adults on a 1:1 and small group basis to help overcome their barriers to learning, utilizing your knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons to students identified as requiring additional support, adapting your approach to meet the diverse needs of the students.
  • Supervise students during class activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and providing a supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of teaching materials and resources, collaborating with teachers and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and effective approach.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to provide regular updates on student progress, maintaining open and effective communication.
Requirements
  • Hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate, Diploma, or Qualification.
  • Have at least 6 months of experience in an educational setting, with a strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Be able to engage with young people and build effective relationships, demonstrating a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Be confident in managing behavior within a school setting, utilizing your knowledge of behavior management strategies.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs, such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
