About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with special educational needs in a thriving York school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a Primary aged pupil with speech, language and communication needs, using a Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs) to promote expressive and receptive language skills.
  • Work closely with the school's teaching and support staff, as well as Speech and Language Therapists, to develop and implement individualized learning plans.
  • Monitor and adapt to the pupil's learning style, using their interests to engage them in learning activities and promote social and emotional skills.
  • Collaborate with the school's senior leadership team to ensure the pupil's needs are met and their progress is tracked.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment, supporting the pupil's development and well-being.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children with speech, language and communication needs.
  • Familiarity with the Primary Curriculum and Phonics programs such as Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics and Read, Write Inc.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals.
  • Awareness of child development and children's personal development needs.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
