Are you a skilled Rehabilitation Specialist seeking a rewarding opportunity?

In this role, you will manage a specific group of patients awaiting surgical interventions. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying individuals who require additional support to ensure they are physically prepared for their procedures. You will play a key role in planning for patient discharge prior to surgery and contribute to the enhancement of the pre-operative process in collaboration with senior colleagues.

About the Facility

The new facility dedicated to elective orthopaedic procedures is set to open soon, featuring state-of-the-art surgical theatres, patient wards, recovery areas, and essential support services.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage a designated patient caseload awaiting surgical procedures.

- Identify patients who may benefit from additional services to enhance their functional readiness for surgery.

- Oversee discharge planning for patients scheduled for elective surgeries.

- Collaborate with senior staff to refine the pre-operative pathway.

- Engage in the treatment of patients in an inpatient environment, including those with amputations.

- Conduct home visits for patients with complex needs as necessary.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Qualification in OT student placement practice

Desirable

  • Membership in relevant special interest groups

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in managing complex caseloads and discharge planning for patients with multiple health issues
  • Experience facilitating discharges for patients with intricate needs
  • Documented evidence of ongoing professional development with specialized knowledge and experience
  • Experience in supervising and fostering the professional growth of staff
  • Demonstrated competence in moving and handling skills, including the use of hoisting equipment

Desirable

  • Experience in orthopaedic settings
  • Experience working within an integrated therapy team

Knowledge

Essential

  • Proficient knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to acute care and complex discharges
  • Understanding of care pathways related to trauma and orthopaedics
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation principles and practices

Desirable

  • Familiarity with local community agencies, services, and resources
