Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Traffic Operations Manager to join our team at Culina Group. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of our drivers, ensuring efficient and effective transportation operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the daily activities of drivers to achieve set targets and ensure smooth operations.
  • Control costs by managing nights out and monitoring parking locations.
  • Investigate revenue and cost targets, and ensure truck earnings are accurate.
  • Approve daily hours checks and timesheets.
  • Verify costs on running sheets and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Ensure override dates are correct and revenue is allocated correctly.
  • Take responsibility for containers left on wheels in yards, ensuring exports meet vessel schedules and empties are returned on time to avoid detention fees.
  • Ensure pickup legs are added for lifted containers and moved into the relevant planning screen.
  • Ensure containers are returned to quay/depot before detention is incurred and prior to vessel cut-offs, escalating issues to the Planner if necessary.
  • Update vehicles and relevant information on the backload the day before the job.
  • Identify opportunities to increase profitability by utilizing one-way, tip, and reload services.
  • Communicate with drivers and provide them with weekend overtime shifts by the end of play every Wednesday.
  • Monitor driver cover sheets for the next day in case of changes.
  • Ensure drivers are trained to use specialized equipment.
  • Verify that jobs in your screen do not exceed legal weight requirements.
  • Ensure all ATA/ATD/ETA's and trailer numbers are in Truckcom.
  • Set override dates correctly to ensure the sub-contractor trailer report is accurate.
  • Monitor ETA's and enter late advisories at least 30 minutes before the booking time.
  • Send demurrage warnings once the driver has been on site for 2 hours.
  • Ensure all vehicles are routed and every driver is aware of their job and start time.
  • Verify that all OV's and sub-contractors are logged on and using the Truckcom app.
  • Follow service and MOT schedules.
  • Research and understand drivers' legal working hours and update knowledge with internal training if required.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with drivers on your traffic sheet(s) to ensure a content workforce.

Requirements

  • Oversee, manage, and monitor the daily activities of allocated drivers.
  • Stay up-to-date with all relevant legislation and ensure that regulations, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Make decisions in the best interests of the Company and for clients, elevating issues to your line manager when necessary.
  • Promote a company culture that encourages high morale and top performance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Minimize operation expenditure within the business wherever possible.
  • Understand and comply with the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy and carry out work in accordance with its requirements.
  • Set a personal example with respect to health and safety.

  • Be proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and all other in-house systems.
