Senior Data Protection Counsel

Taylor Root is pleased to be working with a well-established Consumer Goods and Retail business to help them recruit a Senior Group Privacy Counsel.

Reporting to the Global Head of Data Protection, you will have a broad range of responsibilities supporting multiple business units in the development of their data protection frameworks. You will also have significant international exposure and will advise on privacy challenges in multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the business to implement their data protection initiatives, including running regular meetings and being responsible for allocated business units.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality legal advice on all aspects of data protection to various business units based in the UK and the wider EMEA region.
  • Assess and advise on compliance gaps, including advising on incidents and data breaches, data subject access requests, and data retention.
  • Maintain a regular dialogue and build strong relationships with Data Protection Co-ordinators across the group by playing an active part in implementing solutions and driving compliance on all areas of data protection.

About You

  • UK-qualified lawyer with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in retail or consumer goods is highly desirable.
  • Accredited Data Privacy Professional (highly desirable).
  • A good understanding of data privacy law is essential.
  • Experience at a top law firm and/or previous in-house experience is an advantage.
  • Organised, self-motivated, and conscientious.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, resilience, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Able to operate proactively and independently.
  • Extremely professional: calm under pressure, clear thinking, well-organised, proactive, and grasps concepts quickly.
