Data Protection Counsel Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Counsel to join our team at Taylor Root. As a Data Protection Counsel, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on data protection and e-privacy laws and regulations to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist data protection legal advice on all aspects of data protection and e-privacy, including assessing and advising on compliance gaps, developing and delivering training, advising on incidents and data breaches, and maintaining a regular dialogue with Data Protection Co-ordinators.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in data protection and e-privacy law and practice in the UK and EMEA, including regulator guidance and enforcement activities, and key business trends and best practice.
  • Provide timely, accurate, quality legal advice on all aspects of data protection and e-privacy to our clients.
  • Prepare and deliver data protection and e-privacy training sessions to our clients and their legal teams.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on commercial arrangements that impact on data protection.
  • Work directly with our clients and jointly with lead commercial lawyers on appropriate matters, ensuring that key issues are communicated and discussed as appropriate.
  • Take a proactive and collaborative approach to managing data protection advisory work across the Data Protection Team.
  • Contribute to the wider legal team, including sharing know-how and developing precedents.
  • Manage external legal advisers, ensuring cost-effective and commercial advice is delivered.
  • Apply a rigorous legal interpretation without compromising the business.
  • Apply professional knowledge into pragmatic, commercial solutions.
  • Be recognized by colleagues within the Group as a data protection expert and maintain leading-edge professional and industry knowledge.
  • Proactively engage with the wider commercial legal team to identify and manage data protection risk.

Requirements:

  • B or BA Law Qualified - Excellent legal training
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister, years PQE
  • In-depth experience of data protection and e-privacy
  • High-quality legal practice and experience
