ROXEL (UK ROCKET MOTORS) LIMITED

Roxel is a prominent Anglo-French organization specializing in the design, development, and production of solid propellant rocket motors utilized in tactical missile systems. With operations spanning multiple locations in the UK and France, the company boasts an annual revenue of approximately £150M and employs nearly 700 professionals. The UK division operates exclusively from Summerfield, Kidderminster.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The design team is responsible for innovating and refining rocket motor systems and associated technologies. This includes comprehensive analysis of rocket motor designs, focusing on ballistic performance forecasting, propellant charge, and hardware stress evaluation, along with maintaining essential documentation and knowledge repositories.

The incumbent will undertake stress analysis responsibilities and serve as the structural technical authority for various rocket motor products. Key tasks will involve executing Finite Element Analysis (primarily using Abaqus) on rocket motor components (including metals, rubber/rigid insulants, and bondlines) as well as the energetic propellant charge. A solid understanding of material science and engineering principles, particularly non-linear viscoelasticity, is advantageous.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Duties

Conduct thorough analysis of both new and existing rocket motor systems, focusing on structural and thermal assessments of motor hardware and propellant charges through FEA software.

Utilize a variety of software and programming methodologies, including Abaqus, Altair-Hyperworks, Fortran, and Matlab.

Perform rheological evaluations of material testing outcomes and provide expert guidance to the technical community for the validation and verification of FEA models.

Develop comprehensive structural test plans for motors and engage in the execution and evaluation of structural testing results.

Act as the structural performance technical authority for assigned projects, facilitating project customer meetings, investigations, design reviews, and collaboration with customer stress engineers.

Produce essential project documentation, including structural analysis reports, test plans, and design records.

Contribute expert knowledge to qualifications reports.

Stay abreast of industry advancements and innovations, enhancing personal expertise and leading new technology research initiatives, ensuring timely and cost-effective program delivery while interfacing with customers.

Plan, schedule, and prioritize tasks to guarantee timely completion of responsibilities.

Maintain an updated job list and associated delivery metrics.

Identify potential risks and issues affecting delivery timelines, quality, and costs, and communicate solutions to the Design Manager.

Perform any additional duties as reasonably required in line with the primary responsibilities outlined above.
