Internal Controls Manager - Financial Services Sector

Audit & Risk Recruitment is collaborating with a distinguished financial services organization in their quest for an Internal Controls Manager. This is a newly established position that will report directly to the Head of Internal Audit. The successful candidate will be tasked with overseeing the design and execution of compliance frameworks, integrating a risk register, and conducting controls testing and remediation efforts. Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of the internal control strategy and documentation
  • Thoroughly evaluating processes and policies for weaknesses and proposing new or alternative controls
  • Collaborating with first line management to implement control improvements
  • Providing assurance as the second line of defense for organization-wide controls and delivering findings reports to management
  • Maintaining the controls documentation, including tracking identified remediation efforts
  • Identifying and assessing Technology Controls

Candidate Profile:

  • Proven experience in internal audit, internal controls, risk assessment/management, regulatory compliance, or governance/SOX
  • Familiarity with IT Risk is advantageous
  • Extensive experience in redesigning controls and conducting controls testing
  • Excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and the ability to articulate control deficiencies clearly, including understanding their root causes and implications
  • Experience in managing complex internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality results on schedule and meet or exceed expectations
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change

Qualifications:

  • Preferred backgrounds include Risk Assurance from Big 4 firms or experience in internal controls (2nd Line)
  • Professional qualifications in Accounting/Internal Audit such as ACA/ACCA or CIA are highly regarded
