Core Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for fulfilling the standard duties and obligations associated with a General Practitioner in a primary care setting. This includes:

  • Conducting surgery consultations and responding to telephone inquiries.
  • Visiting patients in their homes as necessary.
  • Reviewing and authorizing repeat prescriptions.
  • Addressing medication-related queries and completing necessary documentation promptly.
  • Upholding the highest standards of care for all patients, both registered and temporary.

About Cestria Health Centre

Our practice operates across two locations in County Durham, featuring a well-established partnership comprising 8 GP partners and 6 salaried GPs, alongside 4 Nurse Practitioners who also conduct home visits, supported by a full nursing and administrative team.

We benefit from in-house pharmacists, significantly reducing administrative burdens.

Our team includes roles within the Primary Care Network (PCN) such as social prescribers, mental health professionals, and physiotherapists.

We are committed to education, serving as a training practice for medical students and Foundation Year 2 doctors.

Our practice has developed General Practitioner with Special Interest (GPSI) services in dermatology, minor surgery, and ENT, which we operate from our facilities.

Job Duties

In alignment with the practice schedule, the post-holder will be expected to:

  • Make informed, independent decisions regarding patient care.
  • Assess the healthcare needs of patients presenting with undiagnosed conditions.
  • Screen for risk factors and early indicators of illness.
  • Collaborate with patients to create health care plans in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provide health education and counseling.
  • Manage patient admissions and discharges, referring to other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely consultation records.
  • Collect data for quality audits.
  • Generate and issue prescriptions electronically, minimizing handwritten notes.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Certification of Completion of Training.
  • Inclusion on the Performers List.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Familiarity with the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to listen attentively and empathetically to patients.
  • Detail-oriented with a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience in formulating treatment plans and evaluating patient progress.
  • Proficiency in working with integrated care pathways and patient-specific directives.
