About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting advanced practitioner specimen dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dissect and examine surgical specimens to provide accurate and detailed reports
  • Select and freeze representative tissue samples for histopathology reports
  • Use digital dictation systems to create macro descriptions of samples
  • Maintain highly developed skills and experience in dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens
  • Ensure all specimens for decalcification are monitored and processed promptly
Requirements
  • BSc degree or equivalent in biological/biomedical sciences or a related subject
  • Experience of carrying out routine laboratory tasks and following SOPs
  • Understanding of basic Health and Safety in healthcare/laboratory environments
  • Awareness of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA)
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing environment
Desirable Qualifications
  • MSc degree in a related subject
  • Experience of PCR-based assays and extracting DNA/RNA using standard kits
  • Cutting tissue sections by microtomy/cryotomy
  • Awareness of confidentiality and data protection in relation to patient information
