Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As a specialist in orthopaedic specimen dissection, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality laboratory services to support patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Dissect and examine bone and soft tissue surgical specimens to provide accurate and reliable results.
- Select and freeze representative tissue samples for histopathology reports.
- Use digital dictation systems to create detailed descriptions of specimens.
- Maintain highly developed skills and experience in dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens.
- Ensure all specimens for decalcification are monitored regularly and processed as soon as possible.
- BSc degree or equivalent in biological/biomedical sciences or a related subject.
- Experience of carrying out routine laboratory tasks by following standard operating procedures.
- Understanding of basic health and safety in healthcare/laboratory environments.
- Awareness of the Human Tissue Authority.
- Experience of working in a customer-facing environment.
- MSc degree in a related subject.
- Experience of PCR-based assays.
- Experience of extracting DNA/RNA using standard kits.
- Cutting tissue sections by microtomy/cryotomy.
- Awareness of confidentiality and data protection in relation to patient information.
