Position Overview

This is a part-time role, requiring 21 hours of commitment per week, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Child Protection Coordinator with extensive experience in collaborative case management, policy development, and training program delivery to uphold the highest standards of child protection.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities, along with compassion, sound judgment, and the capacity to engage and influence stakeholders. You will embody our core values and mission. Given our extensive volunteer network, flexibility to work evenings and weekends (to provide training for volunteers) and travel as needed is essential.

Key Responsibilities

St John Ambulance Cymru serves individuals of various ages and backgrounds, including youth groups and adult volunteers across the region. As the designated Child Protection Coordinator, you will be instrumental in driving and supporting the execution of our safeguarding framework, ensuring a secure environment where both children and adults are shielded from harm and abuse.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Formulating and executing comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures in accordance with legal standards and best practices, while monitoring adherence.
  • Reporting any non-compliance with policies, breaches of procedures, or safeguarding concerns to the leadership team and relevant external bodies.
  • Offering expert advice and guidance to staff, volunteers, and leadership on safeguarding issues and available resources.
  • Conducting risk assessments to identify potential safeguarding challenges.
  • Making safeguarding referrals promptly upon receipt of concerns.
  • Collaborating with local authorities and law enforcement to address safeguarding matters effectively.
  • Managing immediate actions to ensure the safety of individuals at risk.
  • Supporting survivors of abuse, ensuring their rights and dignity are upheld.
  • Coordinating welfare support for any staff member or volunteer under investigation.
  • Working with the National Training Manager to identify safeguarding training needs.
  • Designing and delivering training programs aligned with national standards to enhance safeguarding awareness across the organization.
  • Leading safeguarding-related projects as required.
  • Assisting the Head of HR to ensure recruitment practices promote effective safeguarding measures.
  • Collaborating with the National Volunteer Manager and HR team to develop induction programs that support safeguarding practices.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to safeguarding cases.
  • Preparing and presenting regular management information for the Head of HR and relevant committees.
  • Overseeing the recruitment of volunteer safeguarding coordinators across the region.
  • Engaging in relevant networks to stay updated on safeguarding practices, some of which may occur outside regular hours.
  • Coordinating with colleagues and external agencies to enhance safeguarding provisions and share best practices.
  • Fostering an open culture that encourages individuals to voice concerns.
  • Managing a team of volunteer safeguarding leads and coordinators.
  • Overseeing on-call arrangements for safeguarding inquiries during operational hours.

Experience Requirements:

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a designated safeguarding lead, managing safeguarding at an organizational level.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safeguarding policies and training programs.
  • Background in managing complex cases in accordance with local authority guidelines.
  • Experience in delivering training sessions.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Trained to the relevant national safeguarding standards.

Desirable:

  • Advanced training in safeguarding standards.
