Postdoctoral Researcher in Ultra-High Power GaN RF Devices

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability (CDTR) at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of ultra-high power GaN RF devices, with a focus on developing new laser-based optical systems to study temperature and electric fields that limit device performance and reliability.

The role requires extensive expertise in optical characterization system design and measurement techniques, as well as a good understanding of device physics. You will have the opportunity to study unique device structures, apply new thermal imaging techniques for nm-scale devices, and collaborate with our 25-member team and industrial partners.

This research position will give you the opportunity to make a major impact on future RF device technology. You will work together with, and co-supervise, PhD students of the CDTR, and have access to advanced device testing suites and simulation tools.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering, with a good publication record. A willingness to work in a collaborative environment and contribute to the advancement of ultra-high power GaN RF devices is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to develop new laser-based optical systems for studying temperature and electric fields in ultra-high power GaN RF devices
  • Design and implement optical characterization systems for device testing and analysis
  • Collaborate with the CDTR team and industrial partners to advance ultra-high power GaN RF devices
  • Co-supervise PhD students and contribute to the development of new device structures and thermal imaging techniques

Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering
  • Extensive expertise in optical characterization system design and measurement techniques
  • Good understanding of device physics and thermal imaging techniques
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and contribute to the advancement of ultra-high power GaN RF devices
