Job Description

As a key member of our team at PA Consulting, you will play a crucial role in the development of dry moulded fibre technology. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Research Scientist to join our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct day-to-day laboratory-scale activities with limited supervision, including experimental work and evaluation of test samples.
  • Prepare samples through various processing steps involving mechanical processing and chemical treatment.
  • Evaluate mechanical and chemical properties of samples using standard and non-standard laboratory testing equipment.
  • Measure and record data, maintain records, and report results to the wider team, interpret experimental data and observations, and participate in internal technical discussions.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, including chemicals and equipment, and perform other clerical tasks as necessary.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, COSHH, and risk assessments.
  • Report, communicate, and participate in the investigation and resolution of quality, technical, and safety issues that may arise with testing setup, procedures, and equipment, working with internal and external parties as necessary.
Requirements
  • A HNC / Level 4 qualification or equivalent in a relevant field, such as chemistry, applied chemistry, material science, or chemical engineering.
  • Commercial experience within a production QC or scientific laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and chemical concepts to prepare and analyze mechanical and chemical performances in the lab.
  • Experience working with laboratory and analytical equipment.
  • Good basic computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work with chemicals, following standard safe handling procedures.
