Overview of the Position:
Bankside Open Spaces Trust is seeking a proactive and organized Centre Supervisor who is dedicated to fostering community involvement and supporting youth initiatives. This role is essential in leading and managing our community operations, enhancing engagement, and nurturing a welcoming environment for all.

This position offers a diverse and fulfilling opportunity within a recognized environmental and community-focused charity in Central London.

Role Summary:
The position is situated at our Living Space Community Centre, a dynamic and inclusive venue aimed at facilitating accessible youth programs. The Centre Supervisor will take the initiative in collaborating with staff, stakeholders, partners, and the local populace, promoting awareness of the Trust's initiatives, energizing the centre, and ensuring its long-term viability. Responsibilities will encompass various facets of facility management, health and safety compliance, project planning and execution, team management, financial oversight, and strategic planning.

Strong communication skills are vital, with an emphasis on both written and verbal interactions delivered in a friendly and approachable manner. Flexibility in work hours is necessary, including evenings and occasional weekends, to meet the charity's objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. General Responsibilities:
    • Uphold the mission and objectives of Bankside Open Spaces Trust while promoting community engagement.
    • Foster a supportive atmosphere for team members, encouraging their professional growth.
    • Advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion among all staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  2. Operational Duties:
    • Manage reception duties, welcoming service users and visitors.
    • Ensure building security by adhering to safety protocols and managing access.
    • Prepare spaces for events and meetings as required.
    • Handle inquiries via phone, email, and in-person, providing accurate information.
    • Conduct regular checks for damage, security, and health and safety compliance.
    • Coordinate maintenance requests with relevant authorities.
    • Supervise contractors and assess the quality of their work.
    • Perform general maintenance tasks, including furniture rearrangement.
    • Assist visitors with basic requests as needed.
    • Manage incoming mail and deliveries, ensuring proper distribution.
    • Oversee waste disposal and maintain cleanliness in the vicinity.
    • Ensure fire escape routes remain unobstructed.
    • Address hazards promptly and ensure areas are secured.
    • Complete administrative tasks as necessary.
    • Conduct spot cleaning after events as required.
    • Maintain order and tidiness in designated areas.
  3. Managerial Responsibilities:
    • Negotiate services and contracts with local authorities and youth organizations.
    • Oversee the community centre's booking system for effective operation.
    • Serve as the primary key holder, ensuring the centre's security during opening and closing.
    • Maintain essential building systems, including alarms and heating.
    • Develop and implement a maintenance plan for the community centre.
  4. Health and Safety Oversight:
    • Create, implement, and monitor safety and security policies.
    • Ensure all statutory inspections are conducted timely.
    • Maintain accurate records related to health and safety compliance.
    • Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols.
    • Provide guidance and support to staff and service users regarding health and safety responsibilities.
  5. Team Management:
    • Supervise staff at the Living Space.
    • Manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
    • Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
    • Facilitate ongoing professional development for team members.
    • Oversee the work of contractors and temporary staff as necessary.
    • Plan and manage activities conducted by sessional workers.
  6. Financial Oversight:
    • Collaborate with leadership to establish the budget for the community centre.
    • Explore opportunities for income generation within the centre.
    • Manage financial transactions and oversee procurement processes.
    • Ensure supplies and refreshments are ordered efficiently.
  7. Additional Responsibilities:
    • Manage marketing and promotional activities for the community centre.
    • Prepare funding applications and develop new projects.
    • Build strong relationships with local communities and organizations.
    • Implement systems for monitoring and evaluating the centre's usage.
    • Adhere to and promote the Trust's policies in all activities.
    • Undertake other duties as assigned by leadership.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  2. Proven experience in building relationships with community groups.
  3. Prior experience in managing a community centre.
  4. Experience in leading a small team.
  5. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  6. Familiarity with database management systems.
  7. Experience in budget management and reporting.
  8. Keen attention to detail.
  9. Understanding of equal opportunities principles.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
