The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charitable organization established in March 2017, overseeing over 5,000 acres of varied parkland, unique habitats, and historic structures across eight Royal Parks in London. These include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park, and Bushy Park.

In addition, we manage other significant public areas such as Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our parks and green spaces are among the most frequented attractions in the UK, receiving 77 million visits annually.

We are currently seeking a Park Management Officer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, dedicating 36 hours per week to Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery. The role will require one day per week at Brompton Cemetery, with the remainder of the time spent at Kensington Gardens. The successful candidate may also participate in a four-weekly rota for duty management responsibilities.

Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery are both Grade 1 Listed landscapes rich in heritage and history. Kensington Gardens, established in 1689, features the popular Diana Memorial Playground, the Albert Memorial, the Italian Gardens, and the Serpentine Galleries, alongside Kensington Palace. Brompton Cemetery, one of London's Victorian Garden Cemeteries, opened in 1840 and continues to function as a working cemetery, complete with a café and visitor center. Both locations are maintained to high standards, offering horticultural beauty and a diverse range of habitats for wildlife.

Position Overview

As a Park Management Officer, you will assist in overseeing a variety of technical, operational, and service-related functions within the parks, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery.

Collaborating closely with the Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager, and Cemetery Manager, you will ensure exceptional presentation and help maintain a high-quality, safe, and well-kept environment for our visitors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing signage and interpretive materials for public relations.
  • Assisting in the management of natural areas.
  • Conducting water quality testing and monitoring.
  • Supporting the selection and procurement of services, materials, and equipment.
  • Contributing to campaigns and programs, including the Apprenticeship Scheme and Green Flag initiatives.
  • Assisting in the management of small events, filming, and photography.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for the Park Management Officer position, you should possess:

  • Experience in managing publicly accessible areas such as parks, gardens, open spaces, or nature reserves, adhering to relevant legislation and health & safety protocols.
  • An understanding of the significance of parks in urban environments and their contributions to health, well-being, and quality of life.
  • A Level 2 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Conservation, or a related field.
