The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charitable organization established in March 2017, overseeing over 5,000 acres of diverse green spaces, unique habitats, and historic structures across eight Royal Parks in London. These parks include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park, and Bushy Park.

In addition to these parks, we manage other significant public areas such as Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our parks and green spaces are among the UK's most frequented attractions, welcoming 77 million visitors annually.

We are currently seeking a Park Management Officer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, working 36 hours per week at Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery. One day each week will be dedicated to Brompton Cemetery, while the remaining time will be spent at Kensington Gardens. The successful candidate may also participate in a four-weekly duty management rota.

Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery are both Grade 1 Listed landscapes rich in heritage and history. Kensington Gardens, established in 1689, features notable attractions such as the Diana Memorial Playground, the Albert Memorial, the Italian Gardens, and the Serpentine Galleries, alongside Kensington Palace. Brompton Cemetery, one of London's Victorian Garden Cemeteries, opened in 1840 and continues to operate as a working cemetery, complete with a café and visitor center. Both locations are maintained to the highest standards, offering horticultural beauty and a diverse range of habitats for wildlife.

Role Overview

As a Park Management Officer, you will assist in overseeing a variety of technical, operational, and service-related functions to enhance the quality of Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery.

Collaborating closely with the Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager, and Cemetery Manager, you will ensure exceptional presentation and contribute to maintaining a safe, well-kept park and cemetery for our guests.

Your responsibilities will include supporting daily park operations, managing specific park projects, and collaborating with internal teams focused on biodiversity, education, visitor services, and volunteer initiatives.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing signage and interpretive materials for public relations.
  • Assisting in the management of natural areas.
  • Conducting water quality testing and monitoring.
  • Supporting the selection and procurement of services, materials, and equipment.
  • Contributing to campaigns and programs, including the Apprenticeship Scheme and Green Flag initiatives.
  • Assisting in the management of small events, filming, and photography.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for the Park Management Officer position, candidates should possess:

  • Experience in managing publicly accessible areas such as parks, gardens, open spaces, or nature reserves, adhering to relevant legislation and health and safety protocols.
  • An understanding of the significance of parks in urban environments and their contributions to health, well-being, and quality of life.
  • A Level 2 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Conservation, or a related field.
