London, Greater London, United Kingdom The Royal Parks Full time

About The Organisation

The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charitable entity established in March 2017, overseeing over 5,000 acres of varied parkland, unique ecosystems, and historical structures across eight Royal Parks in London. These include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park, and Bushy Park.

In addition, we are responsible for other significant public areas such as Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our eight Royal Parks and additional iconic green spaces rank among the UK's most frequented attractions, welcoming 77 million visitors annually.

We are currently seeking a Green Space Management Officer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, working 36 hours per week across Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery. One day each week will be dedicated to Brompton Cemetery, while the remainder of the time will be spent at Kensington Gardens. The successful applicant may be required to participate in a four-weekly duty management rota.

Benefits Offered

  • Salary range of £32,666 - £36,921 per annum, commensurate with experience, with additional compensation for duty management responsibilities.
  • 26 days of annual leave plus public holidays, increasing to 29 days after three years of service.
  • Pension scheme with a 3% employee contribution and up to a 10% employer contribution.
  • Options for hybrid/agile working.
  • Private medical insurance and a healthcare cash plan.
  • Access to an employee assistance programme and mental health first aiders.
  • Opportunities for learning and professional development.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Work environment in a picturesque location.

This position presents an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in managing public spaces and a solid understanding of horticulture, landscape management, or conservation to engage with our historic organization.

Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery are both Grade 1 Listed landscapes rich in heritage and history. Kensington Gardens, established in 1689, features the renowned Diana Memorial Playground, the Albert Memorial, the Italian Gardens, and Serpentine Galleries, along with Kensington Palace. Brompton Cemetery, one of London's Victorian Garden Cemeteries, opened in 1840 and remains an active cemetery today, complete with a café and visitor centre. Both locations are maintained to high standards, offering horticultural beauty and a diverse range of habitats for wildlife.

In this role, you will find a fulfilling opportunity to make a significant impact on the experiences of visitors.

Moreover, we are committed to supporting your growth through various learning and development opportunities, ensuring your professional journey flourishes during your tenure with us.

Role Overview

As a Green Space Management Officer, you will assist in the oversight of various technical, operational, and service-related park functions, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery.

Collaborating closely with the Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager, and Cemetery Manager, you will ensure exceptional presentation and help maintain a high-quality, safe, and well-kept park and cemetery for our visitors.

Your responsibilities will include supporting daily park operations, managing specific park projects, and collaborating with internal teams focused on biodiversity, education, visitor services, and volunteering.

Additionally, your tasks will involve:

  • Reviewing signage and interpretive public relations materials.
  • Assisting in the management of natural areas.
  • Conducting water quality testing and monitoring.
  • Supporting the selection and procurement of services, materials, and equipment.
  • Contributing to campaigns and programmes such as the Apprenticeship Scheme and Green Flag.
  • Assisting in the management of small events, filming, and photography.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for the Green Space Management Officer position, candidates should possess:

  • Experience in managing publicly accessible areas such as parks, gardens, open spaces, or nature reserves, adhering to relevant legislation and health & safety standards.
  • An understanding of the significance of parks in urban environments and their contributions to health, well-being, and quality of life.
  • A Level 2 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Conservation, or another land-based sector.

Other organizations may refer to this role as Park Management Officer, Park Operations Officer, Technical Officer, Urban Park Officer, Park Ranger, Park Warden, Forest Ranger, or Countryside Officer.

The Royal Parks is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. We believe that a more inclusive environment enhances our work. For more information on our approach to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, please visit our website.
