London, Greater London, United Kingdom The Royal Parks Full time

About The Royal Parks

The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charitable organization established in March 2017, overseeing over 5,000 acres of varied parkland, unique habitats, and historic structures across eight Royal Parks in London. These parks include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park, and Bushy Park.

In addition, we manage other significant public areas such as Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our eight Royal Parks and other notable green spaces are among the UK's most frequented attractions, receiving 77 million visits annually.

We are currently seeking a Park Management Officer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, working 36 hours per week at Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery. The role will involve one day per week at Brompton Cemetery, with the remaining time spent at Kensington Gardens. The successful applicant may be required to participate in a four-weekly rota for duty management.

Employee Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from £32,666 to £36,921 per annum, based on experience, with additional compensation for duty management.
  • 26 days of annual leave plus public holidays, increasing to 29 days after three years of service.
  • Pension scheme with a 3% employee contribution and up to a 10% employer contribution.
  • Options for hybrid/agile working.
  • Private medical insurance and healthcare cash plan.
  • Access to an employee assistance program and mental health first aiders.
  • Opportunities for learning and professional development.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Work in a picturesque office environment.

This position presents an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in managing public spaces and a comprehensive understanding of horticulture, landscape management, or conservation to engage with our historic organization.

Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery are both Grade 1 Listed landscapes rich in heritage and history. Kensington Gardens, established in 1689, features popular attractions such as the Diana Memorial Playground, the Albert Memorial, the Italian Gardens, and the Serpentine Galleries, along with Kensington Palace. Brompton Cemetery, one of London's Victorian Garden Cemeteries, opened in 1840 and remains an active cemetery today, complete with a café and visitor center. Both locations are maintained to high standards, offering horticultural beauty and a diverse range of habitats for wildlife.

In this role, you will find a fulfilling opportunity to positively impact the lives of visitors.

We are committed to supporting your professional growth through various learning and development opportunities during your tenure with us.

Position Overview

As a Park Management Officer, you will aid in overseeing a variety of technical, operational, and service-related park functions, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery.

Collaborating closely with the Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager, and Cemetery Manager, you will ensure exceptional presentation and help maintain a high-quality, safe, and well-kept park and cemetery for our guests.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting daily park operations and managing specific park projects.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including biodiversity, learning, visitor services, and volunteering.
  • Reviewing signage and interpretive public relations materials.
  • Assisting in the management of natural areas.
  • Conducting water quality testing and monitoring.
  • Helping with the selection and procurement of services, materials, and equipment.
  • Supporting campaigns and programs such as the Apprenticeship Scheme and Green Flag.
