Design and Development Engineer – Main Plant

As a key member of the Main Plant Engineering team, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of transmission network projects across central and southern Scotland. With a focus on innovative engineering solutions, you will be responsible for defining Main Plant and ancillary apparatus requirements, developing detailed engineering specifications and designs, and providing technical expertise in switchgear, transformers, and substation equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including engineering specifications and designs, to ensure compliance with current legislation, policies, and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams on matters concerning design, construction, and operation of switchgear, transformers, and associated substation apparatus.
  • Contribute to the development of new technologies and engineering solutions to achieve reductions in project lifetime costs.
  • Ensure that all work is performed with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality, and environment compliance.

Requirements

  • HND or equivalent in an Engineering discipline.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments, and businesses.
  • Ability to investigate and understand technical characteristics of substation plant and associated equipment.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure projects and knowledge in one or more of the following areas at voltages from 33kV to 400kV: Switchgear, Transformers, and/or Substation Auxiliary Equipment.
