Job Overview:
In this role, you will play a crucial part in overseeing the production management of growing media, ensuring the technical excellence of both professional and retail products. You will lead and develop the technical and Quality Control (QC) / Laboratory team, identifying opportunities for innovative product development while maintaining high standards of technical integrity, quality, safety, testing, and analysis across the product portfolio.

Candidate Profile:

  • Extensive technical expertise and comprehension within the Horticulture industry
  • Strong commercial insight
  • Proven experience in team leadership
  • Familiarity with IT Systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Background in new product development within a Horticultural context
  • Excellent communication abilities
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver technical assistance for professional and retail growing media products.
  • Champion continuous improvement and contribute to the research and development of growing media.
  • Ensure the technical integrity of the growing media product line, including the testing and analysis of both new and existing products, accurate labeling, Material Safety Data Sheet preparation, and compliance with regulations.
  • Provide technical support to quality assurance and procurement teams, establishing technical specifications and aiding in compliance inspections and testing.
  • Oversee the QC function and laboratory team, offering technical guidance for the development of growing media.
  • Foster relationships with key suppliers to ensure access to cutting-edge technologies and competitive raw materials.
  • Maintain essential relationships with professional growers, addressing any technical and development inquiries.
  • Assist the quality assurance and customer service departments with technical guidance and support.
  • Contribute to benchmarking efforts against peat-based or alternative substrates.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to produce and formulate products for growing media trials.
  • Ensure ongoing calibration and testing capabilities, maintaining accuracy in metrology and related analysis and record-keeping.
  • Respond to consumer and customer inquiries in a professional and timely manner, safeguarding the company's reputation throughout all interactions.
  • Supervise laboratory testing and measurement activities.
  • Provide general support to other members of the technical team as required.
  • Assist with project-related work focused on innovation and the transition of new products or processes from development to production scalability.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the sales team.
  • Support the development and competency of the QC and Lab team for both Professional and Retail sectors.
