About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Science Specialist to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our nuclear and clean energy teams, you will play a critical role in ensuring a mix of secure and sustainable energies that can meet our industry and lifestyle demands today and in the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within small to medium-sized multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex engineering solutions to challenging problems in the energy industry.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to capture requirements, set up projects, and deliver right-first-time solutions.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to materials, manufacturing, welding, and corrosion challenges in the nuclear, conventional power, and offshore industries.
  • Write accurate, detailed, and concise technical reports relevant to the role.
  • Engage with existing and prospective clients, working at their sites, and investing time in understanding their issues, goals, and processes.

Requirements

  • A degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Corrosion, or other relevant mechanical engineering disciplines (or equivalent work-based experience).
  • Demonstrable work experience in solving materials, manufacturing, welding, and corrosion challenges in the nuclear, conventional power, or offshore industries.
  • Demonstrable work experience in writing technical reports relevant to the role.
  • Comfortable with engaging with clients and working at their sites.

Desirable Skills

  • Design for manufacturing using established models, design codes, procedures, and databases.
  • Conventional machining, welding, non-destructive examination, and dimensional inspection.
  • Materials performance and ageing mechanisms in nuclear power plants.
  • Coolant chemistry and mitigation of oxidation/corrosion in reactor coolants.
  • Working or authoring bids within a safety-critical and heavily regulated environment.
  • Chartered with a relevant professional institute (or approaching application for registration).
