Category Leader for Food and Beverages

Job Summary

The Packaged and Speciality category is a key area of focus for Sainsbury's, and as Head of Buying and Commercial Strategy, you will play a critical role in driving the commercial success of this category. We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader who can develop and execute a compelling customer proposition, build strong relationships with suppliers, and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a category strategy that delivers strong commercial results and meets customer needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiating and establishing supplier plans that deliver competitive advantage.
  • Lead a team of buyers to effectively deliver the First Choice for Food strategy, coaching and supporting their development to drive success in their areas.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute a successful category strategy, including Category Planning, Convenience, and Digital.
  • Develop and implement a customer-led selling strategy that grows market share and delivers internal commercial targets.
  • Build a broad network of stakeholders across the business and with suppliers to engage and influence others to deliver objectives.
  • Stay connected with other Heads of Buying across the business to share best practice and learning.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial acumen and experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of driving business growth.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to develop and execute a compelling customer proposition.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify and manage risks effectively.
  • Ability to operate and make decisions at all levels of detail, with comfort working with and without data.
  • Experience of building a broad network of stakeholders to engage and influence others to deliver objectives.
  • Passion for the product areas, particularly a drive to do a better job for customers with our World Foods offer and to step up the sustainability of our tea, coffee, and MFP sourcing.
