Position Overview

Our client is in search of a seasoned Environmental Sustainability Lead to become an integral part of their organization. Sustainability is a fundamental aspect of the company's strategic vision, with a bold ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2030. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to influence and refine the sustainability strategy and initiatives in alignment with the company's broader objectives. You will collaborate with diverse teams to ensure the successful integration of sustainability practices throughout the global enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be on formulating and executing sustainability strategies that support the company's net zero ambitions. You will be responsible for tracking and evaluating the effectiveness of these strategies.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring adherence to applicable sustainability standards and regulations.
  • Creating carbon reduction plans and objectives, driving initiatives, and documenting progress.
  • Compiling sustainability reports as necessary.
  • Managing resources such as energy, waste, and materials to minimize environmental impact.
  • Preparing sustainability data for annual reporting.
  • Building relationships with stakeholders to enhance awareness and engagement in sustainability and ESG initiatives.
  • Promoting best practices in sustainability.
  • Establishing sustainability KPIs and a performance dashboard, implementing a comprehensive sustainability performance monitoring program to track data and ensure compliance with the sustainability strategy.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the organization to incorporate sustainability considerations into operations and align suppliers with sustainability objectives.
  • Leading the execution of environmental commitments, including net zero goals and emissions reduction strategies.
  • Coordinating and overseeing contributions from external consultants.
Candidate Profile

The successful applicant will be a proactive and confident self-starter with a strong sense of ownership, willing to engage in projects and develop their understanding dynamically.

Essential qualifications include:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in sustainability or environmental management.
  • In-depth knowledge of climate change and strategies for reducing carbon footprints.
  • Experience in sustainability management and strategy formulation.
  • Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, including communication, relationship building, negotiation, decision-making, and influence.
  • High level of self-management skills, including organization, planning, self-motivation, creative thinking, and emotional intelligence.

Desirable attributes include:

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent professional experience in sustainability.
  • A deep passion for sustainability, with expertise in various environmental areas, including net zero pathways and waste management.
  • Familiarity with sustainability certifications.
  • Experience with carbon modeling tools.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software applications.
Compensation

Salary range: £35,000 - £40,000, negotiable based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
