Position Overview

The University of Essex is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainability. We are seeking a passionate individual to take on the role of Carbon and Energy Reduction Specialist. Reporting directly to the Head of Energy and Carbon Reduction, you will play a crucial role in our mission to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2035.

Your responsibilities will include the formulation and execution of energy and carbon reduction policies, alongside the development of a comprehensive Carbon Management Plan aimed at meeting our sustainability targets. You will also analyze data related to our facilities to devise innovative solutions for minimizing energy and carbon consumption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting funding proposals for initiatives focused on energy and carbon reduction.
  • Conducting feasibility assessments for cost-effective energy-saving projects.
  • Creating internal project mandates and business cases for approval.
  • Overseeing projects with budgets exceeding £1 million.

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability or Energy is required.
  • A Level 5 qualification in relevant fields is preferred.
  • Project Management certification such as PRINCE2 or APM is advantageous.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a driven individual with a strong background in project management and budget oversight. Familiarity with energy markets, building systems, and compliance with regulations is critical for success in this role. Compensation and Benefits

Salary: £45,585 - £54,395 annually.

Flexible Working Arrangements: Options available.
