About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Manager to join our Sustainability Section at the University of Essex. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering multiple revenue and capital projects related to our climate and sustainability work, ensuring they are efficiently and effectively delivered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project manage multiple projects related to carbon reduction, energy efficiency, and water saving.
  • Work closely with the Head of Carbon and Energy Reduction to formulate Carbon Management Plans and develop project delivery programmes.
  • Contribute to the creation of Project Mandates and Business Cases for committee approval.
  • Develop, review, analyse, and implement competitive tender documents and contractual documentation.
  • Act as the Principal Designer under CDM Regulations or ensure one is appointed.
  • Effectively appoint and manage consultancy services.
  • Identify and manage approved contractors.
  • Closely monitor site works ensuring standards and quality are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure compliance and Health and Safety matters are a fundamental part of all delivered projects.
Requirements
  • Professional qualification in building/facilities/services/energy and hold a corporate membership (Energy Institute, CIBSE – MCIBSE, IET – MIET or above).
  • Qualification Level 5 (HND/Degree) in a relevant subject.
  • Training/qualification in Project Management such as PRINCE2 or APM.
  • CDM and/or Principal Designer qualification (RIBA) desirable.
About You

You will have a proven track record of identifying and delivering large and complex projects, experience of project managing M&E, energy, carbon reduction, and water saving projects, and managing a project team, capital programme of works, and project budgets. You will have knowledge of M&E building systems, HVAC systems, BMS, electrical distribution, lighting, controls, metering, water efficiency, and the built environment, and knowledge and experience working under CDM regulations.

You will have the ability to successfully deliver multiple strategic, complex projects, safely, on time, on budget, and on programme.
