About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven Energy Manager to join our Sustainability Section at the University of Essex. As a key member of our team, you will play a significant role in delivering our energy, carbon, and water reduction aspirations and strategies.

Reporting directly to the Head of Energy and Carbon Reduction, you will develop and implement various energy and carbon reduction policies and strategies, creating and delivering a Carbon Management Plan to achieve our net zero carbon emission targets.

Working closely with colleagues from across the University, you will develop complex built environments across three campuses by analyzing metering and BMS data and understanding the challenges and opportunities of the University's built, electrical, mechanical environments.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Creating external funding bids for energy and carbon reduction projects.
  • Providing feasibility studies of costed initiatives and projects to reduce energy/carbon usage.
  • Creating internal energy, carbon, and water project mandates and business cases.
  • Managing energy, carbon, and water projects valued up to and beyond c.£1m.

Your Requirements

  • BSc in Sustainability or Energy or equivalent essential.
  • Qualification Level 5 in Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical, and Building desirable.
  • Professionally qualified and hold a corporate membership desirable.
  • Training/qualification in Project Management such as PRINCE2 or APM desirable.

About You

You will have a proven track record delivering projects over £100k in value, extensive experience managing revenue and capital budgets, and knowledge of energy markets and energy purchasing. You will also have considerable knowledge of M&E building systems, HVAC systems, BMS, electrical distribution, lighting, controls, metering, and the built environment, as well as knowledge and experience working under CDM regulations.
