Protec Fire Detection PLC is seeking a skilled and dedicated Fire Alarm System Designer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and security of buildings by designing and implementing fire alarm systems that meet the highest industry standards.

As a Fire Alarm System Designer, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Design Expertise: Develop comprehensive fire alarm system designs in accordance with British Standard 5839, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
  • Accurate Quotations: Prepare precise quotations that align with client requirements and adhere to British Standards, providing transparent cost estimations.
  • Layout Configuration: Meticulously design the layout of fire sensors and associated equipment, optimizing their placement for maximum coverage and functionality.
  • Coordination & Collaboration: Seamlessly coordinate the layout of fire alarm systems with other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (M&E) services, as well as architectural and structural features, ensuring a harmonious integration.
  • Client Communication: Maintain effective communication with Sales Managers and Engineers throughout the design process, providing updates and addressing any queries promptly.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough internal checks of design drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to industry best practices.
  • System Architecture: Develop detailed system schematic diagrams that clearly illustrate the functionality and interconnectivity of fire alarm components.
  • Documentation Preparation: Prepare comprehensive design documentation ready for commissioning, ensuring a smooth transition from design to implementation.

We are seeking candidates who possess:

  • A full Electrical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC, HNC, etc.)
  • A strong understanding of current British Standards relevant to fire alarm systems.
  • Experience in a similar role on large-scale multi-service projects is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to produce and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft computer packages (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam software is an advantage.
