Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Development Nurse to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the development of staff, implement an educational strategy, and provide support to the senior leadership team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive learning and development plan for the Emergency Department team.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to staff to enhance their clinical and leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to implement an educational strategy that supports the continuous development of the nursing workforce.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address these gaps.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the learning and development plan and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Adult NMC Registration.
  • Relevant degree level.
  • Postgraduate qualification in academic/practice education or the willingness to work towards.
  • Recognised Emergency Nursing post-graduation course.
  • Mentorship in Practice or Practice Assessor qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and short courses.
  • Immediate Life Support.
  • Evidence of ED skills (plastering/suturing/venepuncture/cannulation).
Desirable Criteria
  • Master's level or working towards.
  • Nursing/Education/Research.
Experience
  • Recent experience within an Emergency Department at band 6.
  • Experience and proven skills in acute and specialist nursing & in the care and management of all aspects of Medicine.
  • Experience of formal, informal teaching of nurses.
  • To have actively supervised and assessed staff at all levels in clinical practice.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current professional issues. Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct, and the Future Nursing Standards.
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit.
  • Understanding of the NHS Long Term Plan the NHSE strategies.
Skills
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Evidence of ability to manage services in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary team.
  • Has own initiative with good organisational skills.
  • Interest in management and implementation of change.
  • Able to demonstrate teaching and managerial skills.
  • Committed to guide, supervise, lead and motivate others within the team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate groups and individuals to improve practice.
  • Good interpersonal skills, assertive but professional.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and resourceful.
