Position Overview

This is a remarkable opportunity to take on the role of Senior Nurse Manager for Acute Oncology Services at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional clinical leadership to ensure the effective delivery of a comprehensive acute oncology service, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary team members. Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will:

  • Deliver expert nursing guidance and support to patients with confirmed or suspected cancer diagnoses throughout their treatment journey, including assessment, intervention, and potential transition to palliative care.
  • Conduct advanced nursing assessments within the oncology assessment unit, ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Lead and manage the acute oncology nursing team, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes professional development.
  • Work alongside the Clinical Lead for Acute Oncology to identify local priorities and implement effective service delivery strategies.
  • Ensure that nursing care meets established standards through meticulous planning, coordination, and evaluation of nurse-led services.
  • Engage with key members of the multidisciplinary team to enhance specialized patient care across various professional domains.
  • Operate autonomously to provide specialized clinical care tailored to the unique needs of the patient population, grounded in evidence-based practices.
  • Support the development and execution of individualized nursing care programs while contributing to broader client group initiatives.
  • Facilitate training and educational opportunities within the specialized area of oncology nursing.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement in patient care by integrating research findings into practice.
  • Identify and address any unmet needs within the patient demographic.
  • Serve as a visible role model and expert practitioner within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with national targets for the acute oncology service and oversee the collection of key performance indicators.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in a senior nursing operational capacity within an acute NHS environment, specifically in oncology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading transformative initiatives that yield sustainable improvements.
  • Proven track record in conducting audits and research, along with the ability to critically assess evidence.
  • Experience in developing strategic business and workforce plans aligned with future service demands.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of practice and policy across various responsibilities, including financial management, corporate governance, and human resources.
