Job Summary

The Private Sector Housing Team at Derbyshire County Council is seeking a skilled Technical Officer to assist vulnerable homeowners and private tenants in accessing home improvements and disabled adaptations. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in enabling individuals to live independently in their homes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of Disabled Facilities Grants, ensuring timely and efficient processing of applications.
  • Process grant applications, including means-testing and financial assessments, to determine eligibility and recommend grants/loans for approval.
  • Oversee work on-site, ensuring that repairs and adaptations meet quality standards and deadlines, and process grant payments in a timely manner.
  • Support other housing services, such as Green Homes Grants, heating repairs, and essential home improvements, to provide comprehensive assistance to customers.
  • Visit customers at their homes to gather information, discuss housing needs, and determine the best solutions, building trust and rapport with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure that repairs and adaptations meet quality standards and deadlines, and that customers receive the best possible service.

Requirements

  • A valid driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are required for this role, enabling you to visit customers at their homes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for building trust with stakeholders, including customers, partners, and colleagues.
  • Enthusiasm for the core vision, values, and Competency Framework of Derbyshire County Council is vital for success in this role.
