Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Underwriter Assistant to join our team at Lancashire Insurance Group. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a crucial role in assessing and managing risk information, ensuring accurate and timely processing of underwriting data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting Support
    • Assist underwriters in accurately recording and assessing underwriting risk information
    • Transfer risk information to pricing models for evaluation
    • Enter risks into underwriting systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records
    • Validate risk information, including SCM and USM validation
  • Reporting and Analysis
    • Contribute to statistical analysis of the portfolio and provide insights on a deal-by-deal basis
    • Assist in the production of regular and ad-hoc business reports
    • Prepare aggregate and pricing information for evaluation by underwriters
  • Underwriting and Liaison
    • Liaise with brokers, colleagues, and external organizations to resolve day-to-day queries
    • Agree standard or minor amendments to risks, referring complex amendments to senior underwriters
    • Maintain contact with clients, attending meetings as necessary
    • Investigate queries from underwriters, operations, finance, and legal, and liaise with brokers to resolve issues
    • Develop knowledge of wording, technical understanding, market environments, and risk analysis capabilities
    • Assist with ad-hoc projects and research work, including portfolio analysis and internal/external presentations
    Requirements
    • Education and Skills
      • Good level of education and analytical skills
      • Progression towards Cert CII/DIP CII or ACII is an advantage
    • Technical Skills
      • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
    • Personal Qualities
      • Excellent attention to detail, self-discipline, and time management
      • Good verbal and written communication skills
      • Strong work ethic
      • Self-starter with ability to liaise with individuals at all levels
      • Team player
      • Ability to work flexibly to meet business needs, including extended hours if required
