The Opportunity

We are committed to being a modern and transparent regulator, and we are making substantial investments in new digital technologies and skills to enhance our regulatory processes and management of information. As a Nuclear Safety Inspector - Internal Hazards Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of roles across the sector, from regulating the construction of new nuclear build to the decommissioning of legacy facilities.

The Role

As an inspector, your job will be varied and challenging, and you will be responsible for undertaking a range of tasks, including planned and reactive inspections on site, assessing safety submissions, and managing discrete intervention projects. You will also have the opportunity to conduct investigations, manage research projects, and mentor and develop the next generation of inspectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regulate the construction of new nuclear build and the decommissioning of legacy facilities
  • Undertake planned and reactive inspections on site
  • Assess safety submissions and manage discrete intervention projects
  • Conduct investigations and manage research projects
  • Mentor and develop the next generation of inspectors
Person Specification

We are seeking a skilled professional with a degree-level qualification or equivalent in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, or a related discipline. You will also need to have chartered membership of a relevant professional institution or the ability to demonstrate performance and/or experience at an equivalent professional level.

In addition, you will need to have previous experience in internal hazards within the nuclear industry or equivalent, including experience of safety case production, assessment, and physical inspection. You will also need to have demonstrable background on the assessment of complex safety systems designed with multiple lines of protection to protect against internal hazards.

Other essential skills and experience include experience of implementing safety solutions in a hazardous industry, extensive knowledge of relevant safety standards and the application of design and engineering principles, and the ability to assimilate, analyse and provide judgements on new and complex technical issues.
