Location: Flexible within Scotland | We proudly support a Flexible First approach to work; however, your primary 'home' location should be one of our operational offices or depots in Scotland, focusing on our Eastern region projects.

Compensation: £47,600 - £71,600 + vehicle / vehicle allowance + performance-related incentives + a comprehensive benefits package to support your financial, health, and family needs.

We are excited to present an opportunity for a Senior Construction Operations Manager to enhance the site construction capabilities at SSE, while overseeing a portfolio of significant capital projects within our Transmission sector.

Reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, you will take on leadership responsibilities for the construction team in your designated area, ensuring that all site operations are conducted safely, adhere to timelines, and meet the established quality benchmarks.

The ideal candidate will serve as a key representative for their construction team, assisting in the planning of site activities during the initial phases of various projects and leading the construction team to ensure that contractors execute their tasks in compliance with contractual obligations and SSE policies.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume overall responsibility for recruiting and nurturing team members, including Construction Site Managers, Site Supervisors, and Trainee Site Managers to align with project demands.
  • Provide functional oversight and guidance to the construction team, ensuring adherence to CDM Regulations, evaluating contractor performance, and defining the roles and responsibilities of team members.
  • Collaborate with fellow Senior Construction Managers to identify and address deficiencies in current processes and systems. Develop and maintain comprehensive construction manuals detailing the procedures, systems, and documentation required on-site.
  • Consider SSE's future project commitments and pinpoint critical phases of development where construction team involvement is essential for successful delivery. This includes site selection for substations, route selection for overhead lines and underground cables, program development, and initial commissioning planning.
  • Manage external stakeholder interactions regarding all construction-related matters and lead safety discussions with health and safety colleagues.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing large-scale, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with NEC contract forms, including experience in the role of NEC Supervisor.
  • Current or recent certifications for site access such as CSCS / EUSR, along with site management qualifications like NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS (5-day) or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Proven ability to act as the 'Client' from a CDM and contractual perspective in construction management processes.

A valid driving license is essential due to the need for site visits.
