About the Position

Location: Flexible across Scotland | We embrace a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception; however, your primary 'home' location should be one of our SSEN Transmission offices or depots in Scotland, focusing on our East of Scotland initiatives.

Compensation: £47,600 - £71,600 + vehicle / vehicle allowance + performance-related bonus + a comprehensive benefits package to support your financial, health, and family needs.

Work Schedule: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

We are excited to present an opportunity for a Senior Construction Operations Manager to enhance the SSEN Transmission site construction capabilities while overseeing a series of significant capital projects within our Transmission business framework.

Reporting directly to the Lead Project Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and comprehensive management for the construction team in your designated area, ensuring that site operations are executed safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.

The ideal candidate will serve as a key representative for their construction team, assisting in the planning of site operations during the development phase of various projects and leading the construction team to ensure that contractors adhere to contractual obligations and SSEN Transmission policies and procedures.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall accountability for the recruitment and professional development of team members, including Construction Site Managers, Construction Site Supervisors, and Trainee Site Construction Managers to fulfill project portfolio needs.
  • Provide functional oversight and leadership to the construction team, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations, monitoring contractor performance, and defining the essential responsibilities of construction team members.
  • Collaborate with other Senior Construction Operations Managers to identify deficiencies in current processes and systems. Define and document requirements to create and maintain construction manuals for all aspects of the construction team role (detailing processes, systems, and associated documentation to be utilized on site).
  • Consider SSEN Transmission's future project commitments and identify critical phases of the development process where construction team involvement is necessary to ensure successful future delivery. This includes site selection for substations, route selection for overhead lines and underground cables, program development, drafting and issuing Project Specific Works Information, reviewing Contractor ITT submissions and Part A deliverables, initial commissioning development planning, outage planning, and operational interface requirements.
  • Manage external stakeholder engagement concerning all construction-related matters and lead safety forums in collaboration with SHW colleagues.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, we would appreciate you having:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing large-scale, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with NEC forms of contracts, including prior experience as an NEC Supervisor.
  • Current or recent certifications for site access, such as CSCS / EUSR or similar, along with site management qualifications including NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS (5-day) or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Proven understanding of the 'Client' role from a CDM and contractual perspective in construction management processes and systems.

A valid driving license is essential due to the requirement for travel to and presence on site.
