Position Overview

As a Substance Misuse Practitioner Trainee, you will engage in our Young Persons Substance Misuse Service, providing essential support to adolescents and their families. This service delivers personalized assistance, including a 24-hour helpline, counseling, and pharmacological interventions, tailored for individuals aged 11 to 25 years. Our harm reduction strategy places the service user at the forefront, allowing us to offer targeted educational sessions and specialized interventions for those needing more comprehensive support.

In conjunction with your on-the-job training, you will pursue a Level 3 Youth Support Worker apprenticeship. This program is designed to enhance your knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for effectively supporting young individuals aged 11-25, fostering their personal, social, and educational growth. The youth support role is centered around building a holistic, positive professional relationship with young people, ensuring that the relationship is guided by their unique journeys. It encourages young individuals to express their thoughts and learn about themselves and society through informal educational methods within a professional context.

As an Apprentice Substance Misuse Practitioner, you will cultivate your understanding of the reasons behind substance use among young people and develop the skills necessary to engage effectively with young individuals, their parents, and caregivers.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in literacy and numeracy, evidenced by GCSEs in Mathematics and English at grade 4/C or higher.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with young people.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities concerning young individuals (full training will be provided).
  • Exceptional engagement skills to motivate young individuals.
  • Effective communication abilities with team members, professionals, and young people.
  • Strong organizational skills for self and others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility in managing work responsibilities and off-the-job learning.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Competence in ICT.

  • Work Hours: 37
  • Salary: £20,646
  • Disclosure & Barring Service Check: Enhanced

This role requires daily travel, necessitating access to a vehicle, along with a valid driving license, MOT, and Business Insurance. Occasional travel across the UK may also be required.

Some flexibility in working hours is expected, including the possibility of weekends and evenings to accommodate the needs of the client group.
