Job Overview

As a Substance Misuse Practitioner Trainee, you will engage with our Young Persons Substance Misuse Service, dedicated to providing personalized assistance to adolescents and their families. This service offers comprehensive support, including a 24-hour helpline, counseling, and medication management, all tailored to facilitate recovery for individuals aged 11 to 25 years.

You will be immersed in a learning environment where you will undertake the Level 3 Youth Support Worker apprenticeship. This program is designed to enhance your knowledge, skills, and competencies in supporting young individuals, fostering their personal, social, and educational growth. The role emphasizes building a supportive and constructive relationship with youth, ensuring that their unique journeys guide the support provided.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will gain insights into the reasons behind substance use among young people and develop essential skills for engaging effectively with them, as well as their parents and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong literacy and numeracy skills, evidenced by GCSEs in Mathematics and English at grade 4/C or higher.
  • Exhibit a genuine passion for working with young individuals.
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding responsibilities for young people (comprehensive training will be provided).
  • Possess excellent motivational skills to engage and inspire young people.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, professionals, and young individuals.
  • Maintain strong organizational skills for both personal and team tasks.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Adapt flexibly to various work aspects, including managing responsibilities and off-the-job learning.
  • Approach challenges with problem-solving skills and a positive attitude.
  • Utilize good ICT skills to support your role.
