About the Role

As a Substance Misuse Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing specialist or targeted substance misuse support and interventions to a caseload of young people. You will work closely with a multi-agency team to assess, care plan, and risk manage the needs of service users. Your expertise will be essential in developing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on care plans and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective care plans, YPORS risk assessments, and interventions to support young people in overcoming substance misuse issues.
  • Provide family interventions and support parents and carers of service users, promoting a holistic approach to care.
  • Facilitate service user groups and activities, promoting user involvement and volunteer participation within the service.
  • Collaborate with other agencies, schools, and criminal justice services to ensure effective referral, care pathways, and harm minimization strategies.
  • Deliver harm minimization and drugs education activities in schools and other settings, empowering young people to make informed choices.
Requirements
  • Relevant qualification in youth work studies, counseling, health, and social care, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of relevant children and young people policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of substance misuse, associated risks, and harms, with experience in providing harm reduction interventions.
  • Ability to work with young people in group and one-to-one settings, delivering effective interventions and support.
