Sound City stands as the UK's leading advocate for emerging music: a renowned music festival and talent development organization, serving as an international representative for Liverpool's vibrant culture, proudly rooted in the North of England.

Since our inception in 2007, we have been orchestrating and executing events across the UK, Europe, America, and Asia. Our mission is to create cultural experiences that resonate with diverse audiences while providing transformative music-making and support initiatives for marginalized and underrepresented youth.

Our Mission: To empower more artists and industry professionals to thrive, work, and train within the Liverpool City Region, while promoting diversity within the music sector.

Over the years, we have showcased over 7,000 artists to more than 550,000 attendees in Liverpool and beyond. We have been a launchpad for major talents, including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, and Jamie Webster.

Our efforts have resulted in the creation of 200 jobs, support for 42 start-ups, and mentorship for over 200 artists and 1,000 young individuals who have achieved number one albums, sold-out tours, and successful careers in the music industry.

As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) since 2018, we are on a path towards attaining full charitable status.

We are currently looking to expand our volunteer Board with individuals who possess specialized knowledge and experience in the following domains:

  • Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability
  • Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity (EDI) and Justice
  • Charitable Governance and Financial Oversight

Additionally, we welcome other passionate volunteer Board Members who are dedicated to our vision and mission, particularly those who represent key stakeholder groups, including young people (ages 18-25), emerging artists, and music industry professionals, especially from minority, underrepresented, and disadvantaged backgrounds in the North of England.

This role is voluntary, with reasonable expenses covered for travel to board meetings or training/networking events. Board members are expected to commit to approximately 3 days (24 hours) annually, with opportunities for greater involvement in optional activities:

  • Attendance at quarterly board meetings - typically lasting 2 hours each, either online or in person, along with necessary preparatory reading. Meetings are scheduled throughout the year, with timings reviewed periodically for board member convenience.
  • Engagement in subcommittees or working groups – focusing on specific governance areas (e.g., finance) or ACE Investment Principles. This may involve taking a leadership role in areas aligned with your expertise or collaborating with staff members responsible for day-to-day operations.
  • Participation in training and networking events - including our annual festival and conference, as well as other tailored training opportunities designed to enhance board members' skills and knowledge in areas such as charitable governance and EDI.
  • Optional mentoring delivery – either to Sound City team members or participants in our various learning and development initiatives.
