Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Clinical Physicist specializing in Nuclear Medicine who aligns with our mission to deliver exceptional care and outstanding service to our patients.

Our Nuclear Medicine department offers diagnostic and therapeutic services, including radionuclide therapies for both cancer and non-cancer patients. We are expanding our facilities to include three dedicated treatment rooms and are initiating a significant refurbishment project to establish a day case molecular radiotherapy unit.

As a committed clinical physicist, you will play a pivotal role in our molecular radionuclide therapy services, focusing on imaging and dosimetry. Candidates should possess experience in nuclear medicine therapies and either currently hold or be eligible for the Medical Physics Expert (MPE) designation.

Our department is accredited for STP training and offers various training programs and apprenticeships, providing ample opportunities for staff management and development. The regional medical physics training lead will support additional training for training officers to enhance the national school’s offerings.

Core Responsibilities

Deliver a highly specialized, safe, and precise physics support service to the Nuclear Medicine department and external organizations.

Lead the implementation, advancement, and optimization of nuclear medicine imaging techniques, including CT in SPECT/CT.

Engage in the provision of clinical Nuclear Medicine services within the department.

Calculate dose and risk assessments in cases of unintended or accidental radiation exposure, advising practitioners and referrers as necessary, and participating in patient meetings when required.

Contribute to the development and upkeep of the department's quality management system.

Participate in the training of students, newly appointed staff, and junior colleagues.

Engage in audit, research, and development initiatives in collaboration with clinical scientists and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • BSc Honours degree in Physics or Medical Physics
  • Master's degree in Medical Physics, Medical Imaging, or a related field
  • HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist
  • RPA2000 Certified Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Nuclear Medicine
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable:

  • PhD in a relevant field
  • Corporate IPEM membership
  • Chartered Scientist (CSi)
  • Post-graduate research expertise in a related area
  • RPA 2000 certification for RWA

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Extensive knowledge of Medical Physics and Nuclear Medicine
  • Ability to manipulate radioactive materials with precision
  • Proficiency in operating sensitive radiation detection and imaging equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills across multidisciplinary teams

Desirable:

  • Experience in evaluating and procuring nuclear medicine equipment
  • Experience supervising trainees in various training schemes
  • Participation in research or development, including publication of scientific work
